Most of the adoption process is completely different that being pregnant. But then there are those things that are exactly the same. Like the impatient waiting, difficulty agreeing on a name and… nesting. We are in the place in this process where there is nothing to do but wait… So what do I do during this time to keep myself sane? I figure out how to make crib skirts and cloud pillows.
But now that I’m done, I have to find some other project to keep myself busy during the endless waiting. I figure I have close to 4 months of waiting to go. Ugh!
Today I had one of the coolest God moments of my life! Why am I always so amazed when He comes through in astounding ways?!
This morning I posted Adia’s picture in a facebook group for people adopting from the orphanage Adia is in. I wanted to see if, by some miracle, anyone had come across her or, if they were soon traveling, would want to look in on her for us. It was a very LONG shot.
In my wildest dreams I never expected what came next… I got a private message from a gal who said they had spent 2 months considering Adia’s file only to give it back because there were too many unknowns. They had spent 2 months gathering information, pictures and videos. Today she shared them all with me with gratitude for taking in this baby that they fell in love with but could not bring home. The information and videos are still about 8 months old, but we have a better picture of what our baby girl is facing. Today we got to hear her laugh and coo for the first time. It did this mama’s heart good!
It really was a miracle that I will always cherish!
After months of gathering donations and piling them in our garage, we finally had our yard sale this weekend. & it poured! When does it ever rain in Southern California?! I mean, aren’t we in a drought?! But we persevered! And I’m so glad we did! The first day we were able to raise over $1300!!!!! Then added more than $700 the next day! With that and the more expensive things we were able to sell online, we made $2925!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People, that’s $75 less than $3000!!!! We are speechless!!! I know God provided the rain this weekend especially for us. It caused most of the other sales to shut down leaving only ours to visit. He really is good all the time.
This would have never been possible without the almost 20 families that donated to our sale!!!! And the incredible friends that helped us price and sell everything! And those that made baked goods for Iona to sell. We are beyond grateful for you all!!! We have been blessed with an amazing Church family!
There are so many people writing posts about how to have a successful yard sale… My advise is to let people help. Our crew really came through for us!! We can never repay them for that!
I haven’t been sharing a whole lot lately, because there really isn’t a whole lot to share. We are in the waiting phase. We take a small step forward and wait, take a small step & wait some more. A little over a week ago we FINALLY got our immigration approval, which felt like a huge victory.
The documents that make up our dossier (which include every imaginable bit of information about our lives) have been authenticated and we are just waiting for this immigration document to come back from the consulate. Then the dossier will be shipped off to China!
Once that happens we will wait for the officials in China to Log-in our information, review it and give us a Letter of acceptance for Adia Grace. Then its back to US immigration for final approval. Once that happens we can start the visa process. And wait for Article 5 (which is final approval for everything). This will allow us to get our travel approval and consulate appointment. As soon as we know when that appointment is, we will set up travel arrangements to get our girl!
From this point we are probably looking at about 5 more months of waiting. It is agonizing!!! But with each new milestone, we are one step closer to our girl!
To help with the wait, we are focusing on gathering the last bit of the funds we will need. God has been so faithful and you all have been so generous. All we have left to come up with now is our travel and orphanage costs (about $10,000). Woohoo!!
And we are begging for an update on our girl. Hopefully I will have that to share with you all! (& maybe some adorable pictures to go with it?!?!)
Pray for patience!! It is so hard to wait.
