Sugar and Spice

We are often asked why we want to adopt a little girl. It was really a simple decision… During my days in the international development world I saw an amazing disparity between men and women, boys and girls. Girls, simply put, are more vulnerable.

That doesn’t on any level mean that only girls should be adopted or that boys don’t need families… NOT AT ALL! Every child deserves a family that will love and protect them! It is just to say that God has put a special calling on our lives to adopt a little girl.

We are overjoyed whenever we hear of anyone adopting. Whether locally or internationally. Whether boys or girls. Whether older children or brand new babies.

To be involved on any level with adoption (as an adoptive family or foster family, or as a supporter of adoptive families) is a tremendous gift and it is a glimpse into the heart of God.

“In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will” Ephesians 1:5

  1. Excellent post! This is so true! We adopted twin, special needs boys from Ukraine, when they were 2 yrs.9months, in 2000. They’re 17 yrs. old now and people never understand why you decided whatever you decided, regarding adoption. People have actually asked us if we knew their disabilities before we adopted them! Yes, we knew about their multiple disabilities, but not all the details, but when you get pregnant, you can give birth to a baby with disabilities, we don’t choose, God chooses!
